National Unemployment Spikes
The CNN Money Article just released Initial jobless claims soar in latest week – Apr. 8, 2010. tells of conflicting news. On the one hand we were told at the beginning of the month that the unemployment rate was reduced for the first time in three years last month. On the other hand, we are now being told that last week, the number of new claims of unemployment increased significantly.
“The data may have been clouded by factors that included the end of the first quarter and religious holidays, which made it difficult to get an accurate reading, according to a Labor Department official who asked not to be named.
The report also said that 4,550,000 people filed continuing claims in the week ended March 27, the most recent data available. That figure, the lowest level since Dec. 20, 2008, was down 131,000 from the preceding week’s 4,681,000 claims, and below the 4.63 million economists expected, according to Briefing.com.” CNN Money
All of this is hard for someone like me to handle. You might not know this but I am graduating from college in a month. As exciting as it is to finally be able to stop studying the books, I am emerging into one of the toughest job markets in the history of the United States of America.
For my sake and for yours, I will continue to follow the job market closely this next month and keep posting updates as the data is released. Lets hope that I can get my dream job in the renewable energy field before I leave for my trip through Central America, otherwise I might never have a reason to come home…
